Goals

At Magic Lantern Montessori, our goal is to cultivate a nurturing, inclusive, and academically rich environment that supports the whole child while strengthening our overall program quality and community impact. We are committed to fostering independence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning through authentic Montessori practices, while deepening culturally responsive teaching and expanding bilingual and enrichment opportunities in art, music, and language. By investing in ongoing teacher development, enhancing family engagement, and building sustainable partnerships to increase access for diverse families, we aim to ensure every child and family feels valued, supported, and empowered. Success will be measured by improved student outcomes, strong teacher retention, high family satisfaction, and enrollment that reflects the diversity of our community.

Philosophy

At Magic Lantern Montessori, we believe that every child is naturally curious, capable, and deserving of a learning environment that honors their individuality. Rooted in authentic Montessori principles, we guide children to develop independence, confidence, and a deep sense of responsibility for themselves and their community.
We are committed to educating the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively—through hands-on, purposeful work that encourages exploration, concentration, and a lifelong love of learning. Our approach intentionally integrates an anti-bias curriculum, supporting children in developing identity, empathy, critical thinking, and respect for diversity. We actively work to create an environment where differences are recognized, valued, and celebrated.
We value diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness as essential to a child’s development. By fostering a welcoming and respectful community, we ensure that every child and family feels seen, heard, and supported. Through meaningful connections, enriched programs in art, music, and language, and strong partnerships with families, we strive to nurture compassionate, confident learners who are prepared to engage thoughtfully and equitably with the world around them.

The Montessori Method

In 1907, Maria Montessori, the first woman in Italy to become a physician, developed an educational philosophy based on observing how children learn and how they teach themselves. The Montessori philosophy is used in education all over the world, with children from birth to adolescence.

Montessori education emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading. Children in Montessori classes learn at their own individual pace and according to their own choice of activities from many possibilities. Learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning. Montessori classes typically group children in three-year age groups (3-6, 6-9, 9-12, and so on), forming communities in which the older children spontaneously share their knowledge with the younger ones.

Activities (referred to as "work" or "works") are arranged according to the subject area, and children are free to move around the room instead of staying at desks.

Magic Lantern Montessori classrooms include traditional Montessori work time, circle time, and an incorporated art program.
